Confessions of a Thankful Bookseller

The Holiday Season, specifically around Thanksgiving, brings about reflection and a time to give thanks for the things and people in our lives, that make it great. Recently, I was asked how long I had been working at Vroman’s. It suddenly struck me that my 7 year anniversary had passed, and I hadn’t even noticed. Our store has been so busy lately, and my job roles have been expanding, which are both awesome things! However, I was so excited to get to 7 years, and when the day finally came, I missed it completely! So now, I would like to talk a little about the store that has helped raise me, helped me grow into a productive and confident individual, and the things that people can do, to help my beautiful store thrive.

As some of you know, I have been working at Vroman’s, since I was 19 years old. When I started I was a shy & naive beginning college student. I think that Vroman’s with it’s accepting environment and amazing leaders, played an equal role with my college, in teaching me about the world. I have worked with people of all races and genders, male and female bosses, and have been a part of three different departments. All have been amazing experiences. I have opened and closed the store, received books as well as shelved them, made recommendations and rang people up. I have learned how to better communicate with people, and have expanded my reading preferences. For all these things and more, I am so thankful. For anyone who is just starting at Vroman’s (shout out to the holiday hires!), I hope you enjoy every second. I started as a seasonal employee, and know that you won’t regret it. ❤

I write this post on Black Friday, a day where as a society, we search for the greatest deals; a day to check off items on Christmas lists. While I TOTALLY understand that, I implore you to come to Vroman’s tomorrow. Actually any independently owned business, for that matter. Why? Because tomorrow is #IndiesFirst & #SmallBusinessSaturday!

indies first

This is a great day to support local and small businesses in your community. Some bookstores may even have special guests coming! See below for the authors coming to our three stores!

I hope that you can make it out! It would mean a lot to me, I’m sure it would mean a lot to your communities, and what a great way to say thank you to the local businesses that watched you grow up.
